"add a wireless display" missing in action

I was unable to reply to an older chain of this title so I recreated it.

I have been trying to overcome this for some time too. I have even changed system models to attempt to make this work out of the box.

ASUS N550JA-SB71T

to a

ASUS N550JV-DB72T

The problem is they both list the following WiFi options: Integrated 802.11 b/g/n or 802.11 a/g/n (WiDi)

I have not been able to source an ASUS model with 5G radio support so I instead pulled a 622ANHMW from my old Vaio which worked fine with WiDi, and it does again in the ASUS until I upgrade to the dreaded Windows 8.1

8.1 "sometimes" opens the Intel WiDi manager, and other times does not when Project; extended display is selected.
