I actually tried what you suggested very early on and it didn't work( maybe intel drivers issue). I ended up buying a HDMI 1.4 to D-DVI cable and it worked after changing drivers around to an old driver from gigabyte. The annoying thing is that the DVI output doesn't support dual link. The HDMI didn;t work althought I will try again because nothing worked using intels HD 4600 driver.
