I was already on the latest BIOS but I went through the procedure you suggested just in case. I should point out that the BIOS instructions for recovery that you linked me to do not match what happens with this particular unit and would suggest that you try it yourself so that you can see what I am talking about. Anyway, with the BIOS reinstalled and set to defaults, I reapplied my "normal" settings and fired up Win 8.1 Pro 64bit again only to see the messages reappear in the log. Granted, they are only warning messages but I do not fully understand the implications that may be involved.
I then contacted two other colleagues who have also recently taken delivery of these units and can report that the same messages also appear in their logs.
I would like to disable Speedstep to see what happens but I can't see any entry in the BIOS that would enable me to do that.
